This
edition of Democracy & Development: Journal of West African Affairs is
devoted to the issue of citizenship, and is available for
download in pdf
format. The issue of
citizenship and the socio-political problems it has elicited have taken various
dimensions in different countries. This special issue of the journal offers a
comparative perspective to those dimensions. For West Africa citizenship has
become an issue of burning relevance, especially, although not solely because of
the events associated with the conflict in Cote d’Ivoire. In this edition,
authors address some of the current conflicts over citizenship in West Africa.
One of the articles focuses on citizenship from a more theoretical perspective,
while another deals with aspects of citizenship in East Africa.
