The Centre currently
hosts the West Africa Democracy Network (www.wadnet.net),
since its inaugural conference in October 2000. It is also very
much involved either as secretariat or a leading member of the
following networks that have been very central to the work of
researchers and activists in their respective areas of focus:
·
Research & Training Network
on Security Sector Reform in Africa
·
Research & Advocacy Network
on Smalls Arms & Private Military Intervention
·
Citizens’ Forum for
Constitutional Reform in Nigeria (www.cfcr.net)
In addition to the
work of the various networks, CDD has formal and informal
partnerships with many leading African and international
organisations on areas of mutual interests.
Publications,
Marketing and Public Relations
In an effort to build
on CDD’s advocacy and training initiatives and reach the
broadest possible audience of opinion makers and citizens, CDD
publishes a bi-annual research journal, Democracy &
Development. In addition to the journal and its book series, its
research results are also disseminated through its monograph,
occasional and working paper series.

At CDD, influencing
public opinion and raising awareness on issues related to our
work is taken very seriously. This is a sentiment, which is
expressed through a wide variety of advocacy seminars and
conferences and our constant engagement with the media.
Media engagement in
particular has given us the opportunity to influence public
opinion in West Africa as well as the internationally. Not only
do CDD analysts continue to regularly provide a genuine African
perspective on relevant issues to such renowed institutions, as
the BBC, CNN, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Radio France
International, South African Broadcasting Corporation, but they
have also become regular guests on many local FM and
country-based outlets in the region. We have welcomed the demand
for our expertise, from analysing electoral processes in Ghana
and Senegal, to religious controversy in Nigeria, because of the
great opportunity it affords us in giving voice to the voiceless
whilst correcting the often prejudiced and ill-informed
generalities about a continent rich in its diversity and
difference.
As an extension to
its activities in this area, the Centre intends to sponsor a
variety of other receptions, lunches and dinners, in particular
an Annual Guest Lecture and Distinguished Award Ceremonies.
