Civil Society Consultation on the review of the ECOWAS Moratorium on the Importation, Exportation and Manufacture of Small Arms and Light Weapons in West Africa

The forum was held in Dakar from 27-28 January 2003 to correspond and feed into the ECOWAS summit that took place in Dakar at the same time. The report, complete with pictures from the consultation, also contains a full version French translation. (see also communiqué)

This booklet is the report from a conference of security scholars, military practitioners, diplomats and civil society activists held at the Volta Hotel in Akosombo, Ghana from July 21 - 24, 1999. Organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) in collaboration with the Centre for Conflict Resolution (CENCOR), the conference had as its main purpose the identification and promotion of best practice mechanisms aimed at enhancing practical co-operation among the ECOWAS states in peace and security activities.  download

Strategic Planning Workshop on Democratic Development in Nigeria

This Workshop was held with a view to assessing the strengths and weaknesses of civil society groups; examine options and strategies for organising change; compare experiences of other transition societies; clarify and prioritise unmet needs in terms of training and research and agreeing a methodology for capacity-building in the democratisation project. 
Engaging Sierra Leone

Workshop on Reconciliation & State-Building held in Lome, Togo 21-22 June '99
A workshop  by the CDD that ran parallel with the  peace negotiations  talks in Lome, . It brought together a cross-section of Sierra Leoneans - representatives of the civil society, government, opposition, the RUF, academics, and Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora. It was a problem-solving workshop in which participants engaged in a frank discussion, exchange of views and deliberated on what should be the way forward.
